Afro-Bieb Literary Café
In 2026–2027, the Afro-Bieb plans to offer a number of thematic literary programs covering topics such as literature, history, culture, tradition, and contemporary society. The program will be tailored to countries and regions in Africa associated with the most widely spoken African languages, such as Swahili, Zulu, Amharic, Yoruba, and others. The first part of the program will consist of six interactive language workshops (each lasting half a day). By the end of the workshop, participants are expected to be able to hold short conversations and have the tools to potentially continue improving their proficiency in the language in question.

| District | Region | Theme | Writer | Moderator | Language(s) | Start |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Southeast | West Africa | Colonial history + reconciliation | tbd | tbd | Hausa / Akan* | September |
| East | East Africa | Intercultural exchange | tbd | tbd | Swahili / Amharic* | November |
| New West | North Africa | Empathy + connection | tbd | tbd | Arabic | January |
| Center | Southern Africa | Community | tbd | tbd | Zulu | March |
The workshops will conclude with a public event in which the theme chosen for the language will be linked to literature from the country or region where that language is spoken. In each of these literary cafés, at least one author based in the Netherlands (or writing in Dutch), who is (originally) from the relevant language region and fits the theme, will serve as a crowd-puller and role model. The selected writers thus serve not only as role models as writers, but also as catalysts for shifting cultural perceptions. The program format will be embedded within a broad artistic lineup featuring young literary talent (in spoken word, but hip-hop is also an option), music, video, visual arts, design, architecture, fashion, cinema, etc., drawn as much as possible from the respective neighborhood. The program has a fixed format and always lasts 90 minutes without an intermission. During the pre-show and post-show periods, there will be live stage performances and supporting programming.

| Stadsdeel | Regio | Thema | Schrijver | Moderator | Taal/talen | Start |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zuidoost | West-Afrika | Koloniale geschiedenis + verzoening | tbd | tbd | Hausa / Akan* | September |
| Oost | Oost-Afrika | Interculturele uitwisseling | tbd | tbd | Swahili / Amhaars* | November |
| Nieuw West | Noord-Afrika | Empathie + verbinding | tbd | tbd | Arabisch | Januari |
| Centrum | Zuidelijk Afrika | Community | tbd | tbd | Zulu | Maart |
